About this tour

We love to Discover lesser travelled destinations, Explore their beauty and Learn about the culture, this time we travel to amazing Uzbekistan. Two thousand years ago, Indian spice merchants and Chinese silk-sellers passed through Tashkent’s famous bazaars—at the meeting point of the Silk Roads—on their way to Europe. Uzbekistan, a predominantly Muslim nation, has a diverse cultural heritage, and Tashkent, the capital city, is a cosmopolitan, multi-ethnic city, home to Uzbeks, Kazakhs, descendants of Mongol nomads, Armenians, Tajiks, and even perhaps green-eyed, red-haired descendants of Alexander the Great’s armies. It’s known for its many museums and its mix of modern and Soviet-era architecture. Not many people can find Uzbekistan on a map, so try to pinpoint its location. Then you can gleefully point out your choice of holiday destination to everyone, and wow them with the trivia that it’s one of the world’s only two double-landlocked countries the other being Lichtenstein.

Travel Guide

  • Local Sim Card. You’ll need a passport and your hotel registration to buy an Uzbek SIM card.
  • Time Zone. Indian Standard Time is 30 minutes ahead of Uzbekistan.
  • Plug and Socket. Uzbekistan there are two associated plug types, types C and F. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and plug type F is the plug which has two round pins with two earth clips on the side. Uzbekistan operates on a 220V supply voltage and 50Hz.
  • Carry a big wallet. Uzbekistan’s currency is the Som, and there are about 8,000 som to the dollar, so lugging a wad of cash is unavoidable. Fortunately, 50,000 and 10,000 notes are now available. International credit cards are starting to come into use, but they are by no means widely accepted or reliable.
  • Climate. Tashkent’s temperatures, in theory, range from -10 degrees Centigrade (14 Fahrenheit) in the winter to 50 degrees Centigrade (122 Fahrenheit!) in the summer. July is a period of intense heat. Spring is a better time to visit (mid-April to early June) when Tashkent’s fruit trees blossom, the sun is warm enough for café culture, and the mountains are still visible in the distance. From August to mid-October you are almost guaranteed bright weather and the beautiful golden leaves of the apricot trees in the makhallas (traditional neighbourhood). In late September - October, the average high-temperature drops to around 21.8°C (71.2°F).
  • Clothing. In spring and summer, lightweight clothing is best during the day and warmer clothing for colder nights. During autumn and winter layers work best. We recommend taking a hat, gloves, scarf and a fleece jumper. In winter a thick waterproof and windproof jacket is required and you may need thermals also. There may be a chance to go for a swim or enjoy spa activities, so keep a swim suit handy. Ladies should keep a headscarf to cover their head when entering religious sites.
  • Footwear. Comfortable slippers or sandals for relaxing and walking shoes for walking tours.
  • Luggage. One main piece of baggage of around 20kgs and a daypack for personal items. Remember that you may have to carry your own luggage so don't overload yourself.
  • Tipping. Tipping isn't compulsory. You may however, want to recognize the work of a guide or driver that has done a great job. We would recommend $3 to $7 per person per day depending on the size of the group and accompanying staff.
  • Eat the best fruits in the world. From April to October, road-side souks overflow with succulent fruit and vegetables at low prices. April is strawberry season, and May brings red, black, and yellow cherries, as well as sour morellos. In June, stall-holders have peaches and apricots. July is for watermelons, August is for plums, with grapes, pomegranates, pears, and persimmons following in September and October. Central Asia is where apples originated, and you’ll find kées-lyi (sour) and slát-keei (sweet) apples year-round, with a much wider variety than most countries. You will be amazed at the high quality of dry fruits available in all the main bazaars of Tashkent and other cities in Uzbekistan.
  • Visa & Passport Control. Persons intending to travel to Uzbekistan should apply for an E-Visa online at-least three weeks prior to travel with passport validity being at-least 6 months from the date of travel.
