About this tour

Discover lesser travelled destinations, Explore their beauty and Learn about the culture of Türkiye, or Turkey as formerly known, is a country located in both Asia and Europe. While some of its religious and social aspects are traditionally associated with Western Asia, it is culturally considered European. Geographically, a small part of its territory is located in Southeastern Europe; the separation between the two continents is delimited by the Turkish Straits (Bosphorus, Sea of Marmara, and Dardanelles). With the Black Sea to the north and the Aegean Sea in the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the southwest, Turkey is surrounded by Bulgaria and Greece to the west, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to the northeast, Syria, Iraq and Iran to the southeast.

Istanbul, largest city and principal seaport of Turkey. It was the capital of both the Byzantine Empire and the Ottoman empire. The old walled city of Istanbul stands on a triangular peninsula between Europe and Asia. Sometimes as a bridge, sometimes as a barrier, Istanbul for more than 2,500 years has stood between conflicting surges of religion, culture, and imperial power. For most of those years it was one of the most coveted cities in the world.

Cappadocia, a semi-arid region in central Turkey, is known for its distinctive “fairy chimneys,” tall, cone-shaped rock formations clustered in Monks Valley, Göreme and elsewhere. Other notables sites include Bronze Age homes carved into valley walls by troglodytes (cave dwellers) and later used as refuges by early Christians. The 100m-deep Ihlara Canyon houses numerous rock-face churches.

  • Climate. In general, Turkey has a Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild but humid winters. The coastal regions of the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts have a mild climate with high humidity. Summers are long and hot, with temperatures often reaching over 30 °C. Winters, on the other hand, are mild and rainy. Turkey's interior, including the central Anatolian plateau, has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Temperatures can reach 40 °C in the summer months and drop below freezing in the winter. The region also experiences significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. The Black Sea region on the northern coast of the country has a temperate climate with high rainfall throughout the year. Summers are warm and humid, while winters are mild but rainy, and snow may fall at higher elevations. The eastern mountainous regions of the Taurus and Zagros Mountains have a harsher climate with long, cold and snowy winters and only fairly short summers.
  • Clothing. In spring and summer, lightweight clothing is best during the day and warmer clothing for colder nights. During autumn and winter layers work best. We recommend taking a hat, gloves, scarf and a fleece jumper. In winter a thick waterproof and windproof jacket is required and you may need thermals also. There may be a chance to go for a swim or enjoy spa activities, so keep a swim suit handy. Ladies should keep a headscarf to cover their head when entering religious sites.
  • Luggage. One main piece of baggage of around 20kgs and a daypack for personal items. Remember that you may have to carry your own luggage so don’t overload yourself.
  • Tipping. Tipping isn’t compulsory. You may however, want to recognize the work of a guide or driver that has done a great job. We would recommend $3 to $5 per person per day depending on the size of the group and accompanying staff.
